South-Hort has been an integral part of Rolleston and the surrounding community since it first opened its doors to the public in 1976. The company has gone through major changes and now is seen as a leader in the supply and manufacture of growing media to both the nursery industry as well as the home gardener. 

South-Hort is also a major supplier of Landscape products at its Main South Road site. These products include an extensive range of barks that range from a Premium Nugget that is used in gardens wanting that wow factor right through to a Mulching Bark that is used for weed suppression. 

South-Hort also manufactures one of the finest Bio-Grow Certified Composts available.  This compost has gone through a long process to maintain a consistent product so you the gardener can grow the best vegetables and flowers in your own garden. 

A huge benefit when dealing with South-Hort is that all the technology used in preparing their commercial products is available to the public.  This is obvious with their weed free Lawn Mix.  This mix was designed for their commercial customers who were looking for a product that could still be worked after rain, that didn’t have that initial weed strike you get after laying a lawn and that could be used as a top-dress as well as having the ability to be sown directly into.  After much trialing South-Hort came up with its weed free Lawn Mix and it has been a huge success ever since.  Many people are now growing their own vegetables and most of these are being grown in raised garden beds.

South-Hort’s weed free Vege Mix has been designed for such a purpose.  This mix is free draining and can be directly planted into without the risk of root burn.  South-Hort has also added the benefit of a controlled release fertiliser that will supply your vegetables with the entire nutrient they require to grow for the season.   All these products are available by the trailer load from their yard.

The South-Hort’s yard is open to the public seven days a week excluding public holidays.  Opening hours are: 

September to May - 8 - 5 Monday to Friday, 8.30 - 4 Saturday, 10 - 3 Sunday 

June to August - 8 - 5 Monday to Friday, 9 - 4 Saturday, 10 - 3 Sunday
